Welcome to our studio diary! We will try to update the progress of the recording here as often as possible! Also give you YouTube videos and photos from the studio!

So we choose to record the new album at our own Sound Lab Studios! We have upgraded the studio with brand new recording equipment and the studio is better than ever! We also decided to once again work with Lou Giordano, who produced our album Home From Home.

Lou arrived from New York early in the morning. We all, minus Nikola who's still in Gothenburg working on lyrics, met up at the studio around noon. The day was spent hooking up harddrives and installing Lou's system onto our brand new Mac Pro.

Right now we are trying out drums, tuning drums and testing different mic positions etc. We will hopefully starting tracking drums tomorrow morning!

Saturday oct 27
Day two started with computer problems, but once that was fixed we got straight into tracking the first drums. Larzon decided to go with a mid tempo song called "Ducks & Drakes". Everything sounded great and he nailed it on the first take!

Lunch = Chinese take out. Peter (Babs) from Burning Heart turned up for a quick sneak listening and Larzon put down yet another song with the working title "Sense" onto our harddrive. After that we went straight into a heavy song with the working title "Bend Emo". Pretty complex drum pattern and after trying some different fills and beats Larzon was satisfied. Now at 9pm it's time to take on the song "Black Friday"! Four drum tracks in the vault. Not bad Larzon!

No time to make a video today, but there are some photos for you to check out!

Sunday oct 28
Day three. Started right away with the the song "Machine 15". After an hour or so Larzon could cross off drums for the fifth song on our "To do board" with a nice picture of an 80's character from the Swedish teen music magazine OKEJ. We got a whole stack of old OKEJ which apparently comes from Mathias' big sister who subscribed to the magazine back in the 80's.

Lunch. Erik went home to pick up some stuff and took the opportunity to cook up some pasta carbonara, while the others went to Sallad In for some salads.

We also started writing a Studio Blogg for Nerikes Allehandas webpage for you guys who read Swedish!

Mathias and Erik also fixed Nikola's bass head which has been delivering electric shocks lately. The day ended around 11pm with drums finished for yet three more songs!

Monday oct 29
One hour of extra sleep this morning! 10:00 at the studio today. Even later for me though since I started the day with doing an interview for Nerikes Allehanda where we also write the Swedish studio blogg. Then I was off to take care of some business meetings together with our manager Kimmo.

Larzon and Mathias had finished one more song by the time I got to the studio and they were just on their way to go to lunch at Strike & co.

They rolled back into the studio a couple of kilos heavier and that energy boost got us to finish drums for three more songs today! Everything sounds great and the vibe in the studio is top notch. Lou has even started to do push up's every now and then between all the farting. Only drums for three more tracks to go!

(If you've done your calculations right you then know that we will be recording 15 songs during this recording!)

Tuesday oct 30
Started 10:00 today too. Today was time for the three last drum tracks. These three songs were the last ones we put together and they included more question marks than the previous songs. This didn't turn out to be a problem though! We finished the first one that has been having the working title "Beatles" for a while but is now finally called "Detox" before lunch!

Lou wanted to try some Swedish soul food or husmanskost as we call it here. Strike & co had Raggmunk & fläsk on the menu and that absolutely qualify as Swedish soul food!

Larzon also finished the drums for the last two songs before 7pm! Thais means that we will have tomorrow off since Nikola is not arriving until thursday! Lou will be at the studio working on stuff, but the Swedes got a day off!

Wednesday oct 31
Day Off! I personally spent the whole day driving around taking care of stuff I forgot to take care about before the recording. Dropped by Lou at the studio twice. The first time to deliver a printer, the second time to give him paper sheets for it which I forgot the first time.

Lou is super happy with Larzon's drum performance, but at this stage before the rest of the instruments are about to be played he want them to sound as they will on the final record. This means going through them and testing plugs and sounds over and over again.

Lou said that he needed an extra day, so Nikola won't start the bassplaying until friday = one more day off.

Saturday nov 3
Not much to write about these past days. Lou have been going through songs and drum patterns. So not much for us to do here. Larzon came in and changed som drum beats last night.

Nikola is here ready to lay down some bass lines. We will start hooking up a fat bass sound soon!

New video clip coming today too!

Sunday nov 4 - Monday nov 5
Bad updating by us! Sorry! Nikola is playing bass like a mad man! Got five songs left and hope to be done with the bass by tuesday night! Check out the new You Tube clip!
(Which was shot before Nikola arrived)

Tuesday nov 6 - Friday nov 9
Guitars! Started early tuesday trying to find a great basic sound. Finally we decided to go with a blend of two rigs and a line signal. Mesa Boogie Stiletto through a 4x12" cabinet and a Marshall combo through another 4x12" cabinet. We also found out that the new tube-mic Lou bought to our studio for the vocals sounded excellent for guitar!

Erik and Mathias have been finishing all the guitar parts for two songs a day. Today is friday and we are working on the second song for the day. Sounds awesome! After guitars we're off to check out our friends in the The Accidents who's having a release party for their new album live tonite!

Saturday nov 10 - Sunday nov 11
Guitars and more guitars! We're hammering them down! The songs that is. Check out a new You Tube clip with some footage of the bass and guitar playing!

Monday nov 12 - Wednesday nov 15
Guitars are done! Mathias and Erik made the time schedule of finishing two songs a day. We're super happy how the guitars turned out. The guitar sound like the rest of the instruments sounds amazing.

Today we also got treated with a crazy plate of sushi from our favorite East West Sushi! Thanks guys! Check out a photo of the plate and some more new photos if you click Studio Photos to the left.

The vocal mic is in position and so is mr singer. They are trying out some vocal stuff right now as I'm writing this. Starting to sound like a record!

Thursday nov 16 - Tuesday nov 20
Nikola and Lou have been working with the vocals the last five days. It's going great and Nikola got the vox down on 9 tracks.

Today Lou went back to New York to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. He'll be back in Örebro Sunday and then it's nine days left of the recording in Sweden!

Larzon and Mathias will work on some percussion in the studio tomorrow. Nikola went back to Gothenburg finish the last lyrics till sunday.

Wednesday nov 21 - wednesday nov 28
Lou is back from Thanksgiving holidays in the US and Nikola is singing in the studio. It's going great and there are only a few vocal tracks left to do.

Now for some hot news!. Let us introduce the WeSC Millencolin Signature Headphones! Check our news section for more info!

Wednesday nov 28 - friday dec 7
The production has moved to Germany! We finished the recording except for some vocal harmonies at Sound Lab and then it was time to head down to Berlin and Hansa Studios.

Mathias and Lou took a crazy cab ride from Orebro to Arlanda which included a crash and more gnarly stuff tuesday 5th. Now their in place and everything is set up for mix! Michael Illbert, who's the mixing maestro has finished the first song! The song is called "Who's Laughing Now?" and we are super happy how it sounds!

Myself, Erik and the rest of us, get to hear the mixes over a secure internet connection. Nikola will go down to Berlin on the 10th, but for me the huge artwork job starts now so i will remain in Orebro. Still no name for the record yet.. hmm

Saturday dec 8 - friday dec 14
Alright the mix has started, at last! We're mixing at this really cool place called "Hansa Tonstudios" in Berlin, Germany. This place has a lot of history and is located only 20 meters from where the Berlin-wall used to be. Some cool albums that's been recorded here is David Bowies "Low", "Heroes" and Iggy Pops "Lust For Life". Got myself a guided tour in this big building and I have to say it's impressive and has a great a atmosphere to it! I'm never been a big fan of worshiping the "good ol days" I think it's kind of pathetic but what the hell, this place is cool!

So how's the mix going? Well, I'm really exited about the sounds we're getting over here and it really fits our fantastic new songs it's gonna rock your world!!! Over and out!

Check out some new studio photos to the left!
